Our Advanced TMS begins with the NeuroStar TMS Therapy System, and is designed to remove the stumbling blocks to happiness.
Advanced TMS is our biologically-based, localized, non-invasive treatment provided in an out-patient setting. Our TMS therapy focuses on specific areas of the brain associated with the psychiatric brain disorders, treating the brain directly, with a safe MRI-like technology. It’s a paradigm shift in psychiatric treatment.
Your TMS Treatment Is Designed Just For You & Optimized To Help You!
Each patient’s treatment is custom tailored. We insist on precisely what is needed for every particular brain. Using sophisticated computerized algorithms, drawing on three decades of experience in treating psychiatric patients, we determine the exact prescription appropriate for each individual patient. The NeuroStar TMS Therapy System is extremely flexible in allowing variations in many of the treatment parameters. Thus, the prescription of every TMS patient is custom designed, and adjusted as clinically indicated throughout their TMS therapy.
At TMS Augusta we push our NeuroStar Therapy System to the limit! We believe in always putting safety first, but next on our list is having every patient receive maximum benefit from every treatment.
Before that process begins we start by addressing one of the most important questions anyone ever asks, “What’s the right treatment for me?”
There is no one size fits all answer. Medical expertise is required at every step.
The first step is determining whether TMS is an appropriate treatment. TMS is not for everybody. We want it to be, first of all, safe, so that’s the first consideration. Every day our staff determines if TMS can safely be given to each patient before administering the treatment, and every patient is evaluated with their safety in mind before they are even considered for transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy. The safety of our patients is vital to our Advanced TMS protocol.
Determination of whether TMS is an appropriate treatment also means excluding as candidates for TMS people for whom TMS in unlikely to be effective. At TMS Augusta we want to succeed in helping people. We know that some people are great candidates for TMS, but others are not. Some people are advised that TMS is not likely to help them, and offered other options.
Then there is the question of medications.
Our Advanced TMS treatment protocols include a careful evaluation of the medicines each patient is taking, if any, and a determination of the role their current medicines might play in the safety and success of TMS therapy. Whether to change or adjust medicines before beginning magnetic stimulation therapy is addressed.
There are many options. We discuss with patients the various considerations, and tailor for them a plan best suited to their individual needs, circumstances, and wishes.
Oftentimes people continue their current medicines until after TMS therapy is completed. Then a determination can be made about whether they still need medicines at all, or whether the doses can be decreased.
Sometimes medicines are changed before TMS. Other times medications are discontinued before TMS. Sometimes our TMS patients require medication adjustments during the course of TMS therapy. Our protocols include attention to these considerations.
There are many options when it comes to combining medicines with TMS. Determining the best option for each patient, monitoring their medicines throughout TMS, and adjusting medicines as indicated are included as part of our Advanced TMS treatment protocol.
We use the most up to date methods of determining which medicines are likely to be the best of the available choices, and prefer to usually do this before beginning TMS.
We know all people have a unique set of genes which affect how each person’s body responds to certain medications. We take advantage of advances in the science of pharmacogenomics to look at the unique genetic profile of our patients when this is clinically indicated. It helps us determine the right medications for patients who need them during their TMS therapy. It’s part of our selection of the appropriate treatment plan for each person.
Much of what goes into creating a treatment plan for each individual patient is remarkably complex. However, the experience of delivering TMS therapy, and the experience of receiving TMS therapy are simple. The NeuroStar TMS Therapy System does most of the heavy lifting once it is programed with the correct prescription for each patient. Of course, one of our staff members is always present in the treatment room carefully monitoring every second of every patient’s TMS therapy.
Treating depression’s victims is a big job. We’re glad to have a powerful tool like TMS in our kit.
The latest in genetically informed clinical decision making + the most advanced magnetic stimulation therapy + all the secrets acquired in decades of clinical experience = Advanced TMS. We want to help our patients. We want them to have their best shot at optimizing their happy chemicals. We’re committed to custom tailoring all aspects of every treatment of each patient to best suit their individual needs.
