We attended another informative meeting with our peers in the Georgia-Alabama community of psychiatrists who treat mental illness with transcranial magnetic stimulation.
The meeting was held at the office of Dr. Ben Eubanks in Atlanta. Dr. Eubanks is pictured above practicing on a guinea pig during our training with Dr. Mark George at MUSC in October, 2014.
Dr. Eubanks has been practicing TMS for about five years, and is very well informed as well as experienced. It’s always a great pleasure to see him, and his friendly staff.
Our principal speaker was Dr. Barry Jones of TMS Hope and Health of North Georgia. His practice is in Cumming. Dr. Jones is well regarded by everyone who knows him, and for good reason. He’s smart, helpful, informed, and nice as can be.
Dr. Jones spoke to us about what he’d learned during his recent studies at one of Harvard University’s teaching hospitals. His talk reenforced material we learned at MUSC in the fall of 2014, deepened our understanding of key basic science fundamentals, and gave us interesting food for thought as we ponder exactly how transcranial magnetic stimulation benefits so many parts of the human brain.
Everyone at the meeting is working to increase insurance coverage for this effective, FDA approved treatment. Barry Jones has done more than anyone we know to force insurance companies in Georgia to provide coverage to patients who need TMS. We owe him a huge thank you for all he has done.
Our goal is to stamp out depression worldwide beginning in our own backyard. Attending great meetings moves us a bit closer to that goal.
