Major depression is a serious medical illness that affects approximately 14 million Americans. Depression can cause ongoing sadness, and it changes how a person thinks, feels, and acts every day.
Depression is hell on earth. This brain disease destroys lives.
Everything changes. From intuition to hobbies to appreciation of one’s self worth. Nothing is quite the same.
The brains of depression’s victims have been hijacked by a serious brain disease…
While medication can sometimes help manage symptoms for many people, it is estimated that millions of patients do not benefit from standard antidepressant medication.
- Women are more likely than men to suffer from depression
- Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide
- Depression has no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries
- Researchers estimate that by the year 2030, depression will be the leading cause of disease burden— having an negative impact on the length of life, and causing a decrease in overall health — worldwide
- Many people have repetitive episodes of depression throughout their lifetime
What causes depression?
We’re not sure exactly what causes depression, but researchers have learned a great deal in recent years. Neuroimaging tools have been very helpful.
Evidence that depression is a brain disease continues to accumulate, but there is much more to be discovered.
While the exact cause of depression is not known, one leading scientific theory is that it is caused by an imbalance of the brain’s neurotransmitters, which are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells.
Some of our happy chemicals are neurotransmitters. Many people who aren’t depressed can easily enough manage to be happier by skillfully managing their activities, but the abilities of depression’s victims to become happier is compromised by stumbling blocks in the brain. The brain disease called depression thwarts their attempts to feel happy.
There are several other theories about what causes depression, and we don’t know all the answers. Maybe we never will because the brain is so incredibly complex.
Depression is a brain disease requiring effective treatments to achieve remission!
Depressed patients require a proven, effective treatment which can remove the stumbling blocks to happiness the illness imposes on its victims. Our Advanced TMS offers an effective, alternative therapy for depression – FDA approved as safe and effective.
While antidepressant drugs work for many people, millions of depressed patients have not received adequate treatment because antidepressants, and other forms of previously available treatment have failed them. For these patients, the effects of depression can be chronic, and debilitating.
